Praying Scripture For Malawi.

As I came to 1 Chronicles 16, God asked me to pray verses 23-30 for the people of Malawi. These people are an incredible blessing to my family, and I desire to see them living for the Lord who loves them. Based on 1 Chronicles 16:23-30 I pray the Malawian people will:

Sing to the Lord

Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!” (1 Chronicles 16:23a)

If you visit Malawi Children’s Mission, the ministry we partner with, you are guaranteed to hear singing. Singing is one of the children’s favorite pastimes, and their music brings joy to me each time I listen. Often times their songs are songs of praise to God and hearing their sweet voices is such a humbling exhibit of “a joyful noise”. My prayer is that all the people of Malawi will lift their voices to the God who saves, and sing with conviction that comes from a relationship with that God.

Proclaim the Good News Each Day to Everyone

Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.” (1 Chronicles 16:23b-24)

Multiplication. That is the key to advancing the Gospel. My prayer is that each believer in Malawi will boldly share their faith each day to everyone so that believers may multiply. If Josh and I are not training the people in our sphere of influence to share Jesus in their sphere, then the influence we have been given ends with us. However, if the believers in Malawi begin proclaiming the Good News each day to everyone the Gospel of Jesus Christ will spread and this nation will be changed for eternity.

Fear God Above All Gods

Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround him; strength and joy fill his dwelling.” (1 Chronicles 16:25-27)

When sharing the Gospel in Malawi it is especially important to emphasize that Jesus is the only way. John 14:6 is a truth to proclaim. “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” A lot of people’s tendency is to add a little of Jesus to their mix of world religions in an effort to “cover all the bases”. My prayer is that the people of Malawi will realize that other “gods” are mere idols, falsely proclaiming to bring hope that only the God who made the heavens can provide. He is where the strength and joy we all desperately seek will be found.

Recognize God is Glorious and Strong

O nations of the world, recognize the Lord, recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.” (1 Chronicles 16:28)

My prayer is that the nation of Malawi will recognize the Lord. There are so many false prophets promising wealth, strength, and blessing to a people who have only known poverty. I’m praying that the people will recognize the Lord and as a result recognize that these prophets are not of the Lord. These prophets appear glorious and strong, but glory and strength belongs only to the Lord.

Bring their Offerings

Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor.” (1 Chronicles 16:29)

Praying an impoverished people will bring their offerings sounds unreasonable, yet I’m reminded of the poor woman who gave everything she had. Jesus called her blessed because she gave all she had. Even those who have nothing except the shirt on their back can give their time and energy as an offering to the God who gave His only Son. My prayer is that the people of Malawi see that God is worthy of surrendering everything they do have.

Come Into His Presence

Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor.” (1 Chronicles 16:29)

I desire nothing more for the people of Malawi than for them to come into the Lord’s presence. My prayer is that they enjoy an intimate relationship with the God who delights over them. In His presence is “fullness of joy”. One day those who place their faith in Him alone will be free of the terrible trials they live through on earth. They will experience the presence of God in a place where there is no pain, no tears, and no hunger. Until that day, I pray that the people of Malawi will crave the presence of God more than any earthly possession.
